Estella Dunn
I along with 4 other community members founded the Merced Black Parallel School Board (MBPSB). When we organized in 2018, I was selected Chair and then voted to be Chair in 2019. At the end of my term in 2021 I stepped down, then returned to be Chair in 2023.
My focus is on the Black/African American children in our District that are disproportionately suspended and/or expelled, and the low scores in reading and math. Many have chronic absenteeism which I believe leads to the school to prison pipeline. We are preparing to roll out our Parent Engagement workshops in hopes of teaching our parents how to advocate for themselves and their children.
