Our

Mission & Values

The Merced Black Parallel School Board (MBPSB) is a community organization that works parallel to Merced City, Weaver, Atwater and Merced High Districts.

MBPSB’s major responsibility is to support the educational growth and achievement of Black students in the district.

MBPSB also provides support to parents regarding the education of their children, including IEP/504 support, and issues related to school suspensions and grievances with the district.

MBPSB members attend school meetings with parents to advocate for their children, and we provide workshops for parents about how to advocate for their children, and how to be a voice in School Site Council meetings.

VISION

The Merced Black Parallel School Board is a community

organization established to ensure equitable access and

protection in public educational institutions for our African

American/black students.

MISSION

The Merced Black Parallel School Board is a community

organization established to work parallel with local school boards

to close the educational opportunity gap, to advocate for

educational equity and social emotional affirmation as well as to

improve academic outcomes for African American students.

FOCUS

Although we seek the best possible education for all children, our focus is

unapologetically, African American children. Of English speaking students, African Americans typically have the greatest academic need but are often the last – if ever – to have those needs addressed.  The MBPSB believes that those who have the greatest need should be the focal point.  Further, we believe that the key to 21 st Century educational success for all students lies within systemic changes that work for African American students.

Our Board

The members of our board of directors are thought leaders who have made a significant contribution to our society. Each and every one of them brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organization.
